How it works
- AMPDon Felder and Joe Walsh recorded the famous solo through cranked small Fender tweed combo amps, perfectly re-created here with the Tweed Lux model pushed into natural power tube bloom.
- CABThe Tweed 1x12 open-back cabinet delivers the classic woody midrange resonance and smooth top end of a vintage 1950s Jensen speaker.
- PREA transparent B-Breaker overdrive in front adds the gentle gain push and endless sustain that studio console limiters gave the original Les Paul tracks.
- ToneYour humbucker guitar provides the exact fat midrange body Don Felder relied on with his 1959 Les Paul Standard.
Tuning
The record is in E standard, low to high: E A D G B E.
Tune your guitar the same way. Or make your version above, say how yours is tuned, and your Pulze Mini shifts it to match.

The original rig
The iconic guitar tones on Hotel California are defined by vintage guitars plugged straight into small, cranked Fender Tweed Deluxe combo amplifiers, capturing natural power tube saturation without drive pedals. Don Felder used a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, while Joe Walsh played a Fender Telecaster, with ambient depth added through studio console mixing.
Don Felder (Rhythm and solo): 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, Fender Tweed Deluxe (5E3), Fender Tweed Deluxe 1x12 open-back combo cabinet, Studio Console Reverb
Joe Walsh (Solo): Fender Telecaster, Fender Tweed Deluxe (5E3), Fender Tweed Deluxe 1x12 open-back combo cabinet, Studio Console Reverb

- Dig in firmly with the pick on opening bends to induce dynamic compression, then ease off for melodic transitions.
- Use a wide, slow finger vibrato at the crest of long bends to let the tweed amp bloom into natural sustain.
- During the harmonized ending arpeggios, pick cleanly across the string sets and palm mute very slightly to keep individual notes distinct.
